Tourmament History

The Year 1984 ran when the initiative of a German industralist settled down in Great Canary Bernd Busch, along with the then president of the C. D. Maspalomas Rivero Robert, became in fact and supported by the City council of San Bartholomé de Tirajana, started up a match that in the first days of January of every year, began to join in each edition to four teams of resisted international solution.

From the first edition gained by the PSV Eindhoven, after winning to the Fortune of Dusseldorf (with serve of honor in the end on the part of the then German chancellor Helmut Schmidt), to the past year whose title adjudged a newcomer one to it, the Shakhtar Donetsk, has passed through the South zone of the island of Gran Canary teams and historical selections, that have left the track of the good soccer and the sportsmanship.

When Europe freezes, Maspalomas gets dressed in full dress to receive so illustrious guests, as the palmarés in 24 celebrated editions is credited by prestige. This exceptional soccer event comes to increase the tourist supply of leisure and entertainment, of there the important effort of the councils of Sports and Tourism of the City council that did not doubt in incorporating the match within their annual promotions, like explaining faithful of much who represents per excellence for this tourist municipality of the Canary Islands.

The cover during many live years for all the Continent through Eurosport and the promotion by means of the prestigious Spanish weekly magazine DON BALL, publisher of the official magazine and his distribution by all Europe through ESM (European Sport Magazine), that it includes to the most important sport magazines of Europe, have made a great international promotion possible of the match of Maspalomas.

The formidable unfolding of 4 Spanish sport newspapers: Dairio AS and MARCA (Madrid), El Mundo Deportivo and Daily Sport (Barcelona) and the permanent endorsement of the average grancanarios news, are faithful exponent of much that represents this match of winter for Maspalomas, Gran Canaria and the Canary Islands in general.
